Kochi's well-known pediatrician Dr PC Alexander took four street kids to a restaurant, Saravana Bhawan on Janpath, New Delhi, to buy them a hearty meal.
A highly distinguished pediatrician Dr Alexander works as a Senior Consultant Aster Medcity at Kochi.
The kids had stopped Dr Alexander in front of Saravana Bhawan for money. Instead of coins he marched inside along with them and gave them a sumptuous treat.
An eyewitness, Asit Ranjan Mishra, saw Dr Alexander coming in and taking a seat with the kids. Dr Alexander told him that he was a pediatrician and never discriminated between rich and poor kids.
Before getting the kids inside, Dr Alexander had spoken to their parents, who work as labourers nearby. He lamented that instead of going to school, the children were earning a few extra rupees for their parents.
He also added that governments come and and go, but the lot of the poor children does not improve.
In a Facebook post, Mishra notes he would have hesitated to do what Dr Alexander did - thinking people may not like it. He also notes that the restaurant was quite welcoming of the kids in soiled clothes though the waiters asked them not to make too much noise. And other diners went about their business.
Mishra ends his post saying that Dr Alexander was looking happier than the children.
Dr Alexander has more than 25 years of experience in providing comprehensive healthcare to children and adolescents and has worked with the best hospitals in India and Oman.
He is an Examiner at the Royal College of Pediatrics and Child Health, UK and Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow. He has been honoured with the Pravasi Award for contribution to migrant health care, and has more than 50 publications to his credit at international medical journals.
